We were thrilled to recently visit Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and speak with a passionate group of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) graduate students during their AAC course. Carly, our South Florida Assistive Technology Specialist , led an interactive and thought-provoking session focused on individuals with developmental disabilities and the power of AAC to unlock communication and environmental control.
The session spotlighted Forbes AAC—our innovative line of communication devices—and how these tools support individuals in expressing themselves, participating more fully in daily life, and achieving greater independence. Carly shared real-life stories and demonstrations that brought to life the incredible potential of AAC to bridge communication gaps and enhance quality of life.
Students had the opportunity to dive into case studies that reflected a range of developmental diagnoses. Working in small groups, they practiced feature matching to determine the most appropriate device and AAC app for each unique scenario. With hands-on experience using our devices, they gained practical skills in evaluating client needs and selecting AAC solutions that align with motor, cognitive, linguistic, and sensory profiles.
We were inspired by the students' insightful questions, critical thinking, and enthusiasm for AAC. It's always exciting to engage with future clinicians who are committed to making communication accessible for all.
Thank you to FAU’s Speech-Language Pathology program for inviting us to be a part of your AAC education. We can’t wait to see the impact these students will make in the field!
